as i was reading Thr3e, this thought bothered me as well...

since Slater was trying to get Kevin to "confess his sin" maybe it could be a play on words as in "get a clean slate"?

I think it has something to do with numbers. Seeing that our God is a Godo of order and numbers. Slater has 6 letters in it. 6 is the number describing things that fall shot of Gods perfection (7). Numbers can explain the use of Samantha as well. 8 letters, 8 is the number of a new beginning where 3, Sam, is the number of the Trinity. So we have Evil, falling short of Gods perfection ( Slater- 6 letters) and good 8 or 3 in Samantha or Sam. Kevin with 5 letters represents sacrifiese (the 5 wounds of christ).
Three's theme was good, evil and the man who struggles between them. The use of both Samantha and Sam 3,5,6,8 shows Good is surrounding you even when you are closest to evil.
This is my take on the name ussage in Three (also a number hint hint) hope it helps.

wow, that was cool... never thot of it that way, but it actually makes sense! kinda like when in beginning of Matthew, you get all those 14 generations here and there (instead of traditional 12) because in Hebrew the number 14 was written using the same letters as the name David (DVD - 4 + 6 + 4)

Tyler, that's an interesting theory but I doubt there's anything concrete there. It's just too similar to the Bible Code, how you can stretch anything to suit what you want to say.

I don't think there is a way to get concrete info on it, unless you talk to Ted. I just wrote what ran through my ming when i thought about this question...

A "slater" is a type of beetle that Americans refer to as "pill-bugs". Maybe Ted's referencing them? lol

My first thought is that it was a random name that resembled "satan", but by no means do I doubt that Tyler's on to something. Ted's just that type of author. I doff my cap to you, Tyler, for picking that up.
