I am just curious what everyone is working with. To this point, I have always used Microsoft Word.

I am wondering if there are better tools others are using? I had never really thought much of this before just now, thus the thread.

I tend to use Microsoft Works, but this is only cause Word doesn't work for me. I am not sure if there's any better word processors out there.

I use Microsoft Works Word Processor. There are some decent programs other than that, some specifically designed for smoothing out the writing process. YWriter is a good example. I used it for a while, but it turns out, I prefer writing freely, without the restrictions that some novel-specific writing software can impose.

I use Microsoft Word too... the only thing I don't like is how when I want to spell something diffrently to make it sound a certain way, for instance "Kinda" or "ya'll", it says it is spelled wrong and puts up the red line and yada yada... It would say that was spelled wrong too.

I use Pages on my Mac. It has a cool 'Comment' function that allows me to make a comment on a word or paragraph, etc. The comments are displayed on the left side of the window. This is handy in case I need to come back to a certain section later.

While Word and Works are only Word Processors, there is actually writing software/freeware/shareware you can use to organize you novel. Some such programs are: Story View, WriteWay, Dramatica Pro, Storybase, yWriter, etc.

How do those compare to Scrivener, KC? I've been debating about buying it with the NaNo winner's discount.

I really don't know, Leanna. If I were you, I'd do some internet research. There are review sites that review software and give all the pros and cons of each of them.

I went and did that actually right after posting instead of actually writing in my wip. :P

New thought: WRITE the ending of my Nano which is a month overdue and THEN look at tantalizing novel software as a reward!

I just use Word. I really like Microsoft OneNote, though. Strictly for notes and research.

I use Liquid Story Binder XE and I love it so so much!
It works really well for alot of different reasons and it has a great tutorial site. I would post but not sure if I am aloud. Just google liquid story binder xe.
I don't know how I ever wrote without it.
I am working on a novel that has some intricate story lines and deep characters and to keep track of it all and go back through editing was a nightmare before I found this.
Now it is so much simpler. The only thing is that if you are in the middle of writing a long novel it does take a little time to transfer it all over. Not too bad but just a warning.
Also the whole xe system transfers over to thumbdrive, so if you want to download it all on another computer you can!!
It is around $50 or less and worth every penny!
