I would have to agree...didn't use to...

but after reading and studying what mercy really is...I have changed. I've was way--wrongly taught on this and my own pre-concieved notions and opinions were very critical/judgemental.

...my 2 cents...

it frustrates me how people, even christians are too soft on this issue. people deserve justice. the bible DOES condone the death penalty, although mercy is given in some circumstances. beliveing in the death penalty does not mean i want to see people burn in hell. that is revenge. the death penalty is justice.

An Eye for and Eye makes the whole world blind. Who knows what God can do through murderers etc? Maybe Paul should've got killed.

did anyone even read the article i posted? it frustrates me because the underlying issue here is that people are basing what they think is right about this on their feelings above what god's word says. the bible has the authority in our lives, not what we "feel" like believing. that is all i'm going to say.

I think in some (limited) circumstances the death penalty might be justified (but I wouldn't want to be the one handing down the sentence!)... but here in the US I think it's unnecessary and overused. We have a means of confining dangerous criminals.

I can't help but to think of the verse that says vengeance is the lord's. And since execution costs more money than to keep them alive, it's obviously a vengeance thing. I see no moral reason for it, nor do I see a monetary reason for it.

Furthermore, through the death penalty, we are effectively ending any chance the individual has for salvation. We were given our chance, why are we so quick to take away their's? Especially when they need it most.

I just feel that the death penalty is a spit in the face of mercy and salvation. We all deserve death, because death is the punishment for any sin. Why are prisoners any different? Why do we exclude them from Christ's salvation?

well ok maybe we can do it to like osama-bin-laden or hitler but what if like your dad or another one of ur close reletives murdered 7 people would u want him to die??? and instead of killing them we should make a basement of no windows one person per sell not allowed to see anyone and make them want to die then they can decide if they want to be killed and i do see ur point taekwondo rocks but this is my opinion....im a probationary black belt in taekwondo!!

I appreciate the repugnance of the death penalty. Unfortunately, there are just some crimes that I believe justify it. However, I will be glad to see it eliminated under certain conditions. If we are going to allow a person to live, who has murderously ended the life of another, than that person should spend the rest of his/her days, basically, without a life.

They should be placed in solitary confinement. They should not be allowed visitors of any kind. They should not be allowed to have any contact with the outside world. They should not be allowed to watch television, or listen to a radio, or read newspapers or magazines, or have access to books. They should not be allowed to speak with anyone, unless it is absolutely necessary, and has something to do with their incarceration. They can have one religious book of their choosing. And, of course, no parole. In a very real sense, the state will not take their life, but their life will be over. They will just be waiting to die.

Now, that is the way I look at it politically and socially. When I look at it spiritually, I’m not sure what I want.

That is closer to what I want. people over here are committing crime in order to get meals, somewhere to live and an education. Jailed convicts can get access to cable tv!

Well I'm in college (to be exact, I'm in my physics class right now), and there are a lot of people older than I here, but there are a lot of people your age too. That's the great thing about Ted's books--they really can be enjoyed by almost any age.

"Idiot!" Jay yelled at the man from the sky. He scrambled up faster than he thought possible and sprinted after the man. If he was anything like the several other million fat americans he'd catch him in no time.
