Any fans of Stargate: Atlantis or Stargate Sg-1 out there?

I love both shows (and I liked the original movie as well). They're both pretty clean, family-friendly shows with alot of action, adventure, and humor. There's some good characters, a few interesting moral dilemnas, some good villains, etc. I just bought the last season of Atlantis, which has been pretty great throughout. SG-1 I've liked maybe even better, except that the last couple of seasons without O'Neill were kind of a disappointment. Overall though, both shows are a couple of my favorite sci-fi shows (behind the original Star Trek).

So, any other fans out there? How big a fan are you?

I haven't seen the original movie or the last two episodes of Atlantis (that will be rectified within the week), but I've seen everything else.

Cam Mitchell was a thousand times better than Jack O'neill. I never got the love for his character. He just got annoying, though he was pretty funny sometimes. Mitchell is a more well-rounded, interesting, and well thought-out character, at least to me. I was sad when Sam got booted from Atlantis. I really liked having her there, though it was a bit too science heavy. The best moments of any of the shows, though, are when Teal'c breaks out that massive automatic shotgun, like they do frequently against the rudimentary Replicators.

Looking forward to the new series this fall!

I liked Mitchell ok, it was Vala I couldn't stand (at least not at first, I thought she was tolerable in the last season). I'm not sure about the new show, it sounded to me like they were trying to make it darker, and I'm a bit worried it will lose a bit of that classic Stargate feel. The teasers haven't been very good so far anyway, but that doesn't always mean everything. Hopefully the show will be as good as the other two.

Ha, scratch that. I now have seen all of Atlantis. I only have the original movie left to watch. And I have it from the library, too, so it might happen this week.

I liked Vala from the very beginning. She is the right kind of annoying. IOA, not so much. But Vala, she's quirky and bizarre and obnoxious in a funny way, not in a horrible character-hindering way. You know? And I was so happy when she became a main character at the end. However, there is one character in particular I never cared for and wouldn't have minded never showing up: Teyla. She always irked me, and the fact she stayed on was thoroughly obnoxious. Ronon, though, from the minute he stepped onto the screen, I was just hoping that he'd stick around for at least another episode or two. But he became a regular! Very thoughtful of the writers.

I'm pretty sure it might start out a bit different, but I imagine that over time it will settle into a more familiar Stargate rhythm.

I have been a fan for over 8 years and I know my Stargate lore pretty well.

I know fans have been crying foul over the announcement of Stargate Universe, but I for one am excited. They are going the route of Lost in filming in that the episodes are more interacted and a season is more like one long episode. That was the problem I had with both SG-1 and Atlantis, there way they filmed allowed for a lot of crappy episodes. Over 5 seasons of Lost, I have only been disappointed 3 times that I can think of. This type of filming allows for more story arcs and less filler IMO.

Who else really liked the 200th episode of SG-1 and them poking fun at Sci-Fi and themselves?

Still not sold on Universe, and I miss Atlantis already. I like the idea of big story arcs, but I have some big problems with most long story arcs I come across.

1. If the story stinks, every episode will be bad. For standalone episodes ("filler" episodes, as they're called), if they're bad it won't hurt you too much. If someone doesn't care about the story of an arc-based show... then the whole show will suck.

2. With big story arcs you have to always be paying attention, and it can drive away new viewers who don't know three or four years of important history of the show. It gets hard to rewatch the episodes as well because individual episodes sometimes lose their value. I don't know, I think there needs to be a balance between big arcs (like the Goa'uld story in the first few seasons, or the replicators) and standalone episodes that can contribute to the big picture but are accessible to new fans.

And yeah, I definately liked the 200th episode of SG-1. They managed to poke fun at a LOT of sci-fi shows. Pretty funny stuff.

I loved the original movie with James Spader. I never got into the shows. They cheapened the movie for me. I wish they had done a sequel movie, though. That would've rocked.

I haven't watched as much Atlantis simply because I couldn't really get as into it as SG-1. I don't think of myself as that big of a fan, although I have watched every episode (rented on dvd), so I guess it's debateable, ha. The 200th episode was hilarious. I couldn't stop laughing.

I think what dissapointed me with O'Neill was the fact that when he did come back, he just looked old. Nothing wrong with being old, but he looked.. tired. It was strange. I don't know, maybe it was just me.

About Stargate Universe, I just found out that it was in the works. I don't really know what to think about it. If I didn't really like Atlantis, there will be no gauarntee that I will like this new one. Maybe...

You should give Atlantis another try. It's like SG-1, only less awkward to begin with, slicker, funnier, and with better recurring plots and villains. Also, I never got the O'neill love. By the time he left, I was so sick of him that I was glad he was gone. Such a flat character. None of the characters on Atlantis were really like that. Sheppard is a wonderful character. I think you would enjoy it, Elreino. Plus, Elizabeth Weir greatly overshadows either Hank Landry or Hammond as a leader. Just my thoughts.

Universe is shaping up, with the possible exception of the camera work, to sound much more like the kind of show I'd want a Stargate to be.

I can't wait for StarGate Universe to come out! I've been waiting for it for so long!

Atlantis was so awesome, and I was so disappionted when it was canceled. But I at least hope the movie is good.

SG-1 is a classic. It was the longest-running Sci-Fi TV Series ever. I'm serious, it really was.

The StarGate movies and series are really awesome. So awesome, in fact, that it's my favorite TV/Movie series I've ever seen!

Weir was great and all, but Hammond of Texas (woot!) is something else. He was a great actor and he had to make some pretty tough decisions. I also personally loved Beau Bridges as Landry and was a great replacement after Don Davis left the show, and later passed away.

And where is the Robert Picardo love? He did a really great job in his one season as leader. There was some great character development there.

Um, really, REALLY false. No offense. SG-1: 214 episodes, two films. Doctor Who: 753 episodes. Absolutely no contest there. Doctor Who may be the longest running show of all time, but I can't remember.

Picardo was great! I loved watching his character change from being really obnoxious and always in the way to someone with guts and quality and a personality. His was the best arc in the Stargate series so far, though I can't really say that this series is in any way known for dramatic (or even simply dynamic) character development. They all were made who they were going to be the whole time, and very little changing happened. Sci fi seems to be built that way, in a lot of ways. Firefly tried to change that up, but they hardly made it for half a season before some greedy and wussy executives canceled it. I'm not happy Atlantis ended, but at least it got five seasons, more movies to follow, and pretty complete power over how they actually want it to end.

"We will. Baby we will. We'll never stop looking, even if it takes years. First, I think we need to find Nate, and explain the situation. Come, on Sweetheart, lets go..." he said, pulling her to her feet.

Charles, unsure what to do, just put an arm around his wife, and wept as well. Anger and hatred built up inside him. When they found the children, he was going to tear their kidnappers throats out.
