I'd like to take a moment to introduce you to the Moderation Staff here at The Circle, as well as point out some changes.
Your Host
Ted Dekker I think we all know who he is.
Your Administrators
Gregg (that's me) - Any moderation / website concerns or suggestions can be addressed directly to me if you do not feel it should be publicly addressed in the Suggestions area.
Admin (KSK) - He is a key character in the development of this site, as well as The Gathering events. Feel free to contact him with any concerns or suggestions, if you do not feel they can be publicly addressed (He's very busy though, so it may be faster to go through me, if needed).
Your Moderators
Gregg (Admin) = Midiboy
The Golden Mod = Remade Gold
The Redeemer Mod = Zoe
The Modsend = Jeremiah
Beloved Mod = Yediyd
Modservant = KC
The Moderators are my right hand men and women. (Well, man and women at this time). Please treat them with the utmost of respect.
In the past, the moderators had one account, which we used to do all our posting - discussions in threads as well as moderating and reprimanding. This became a problem on many occasions because when other members saw that a mod had posted something in a discussion thread, they sometimes took what the mod said as the official position of the board, or they thought that if they disagreed with a mod's opinion, they would get in trouble. This was not the case, but since people had a hard time discerning when we were posting as members and when we were posting as moderators, we decided to completely separate our accounts.
In theory, we are supposed to do all our moderating through our mod accounts, and all our discussing through our member accounts. We sometimes mess this up, so please be patient with us if you see us posting as the wrong account.
We want you to respond to our member posts as if we are regular members, not moderators. And we want you to respond to our moderator posts as you would if you did not know us individually - well, you don't have to, but what I mean is that we want you to understand that when we post as mods, we are doing our job to keep the board a good, safe place for open discourse, and that we are acting as objectively as we can. The separate account is a way for us to distance ourselves emotionally from discussions we may have opinions on or may have been posting in.
It is not exactly necessary that you know who the moderators are. You don't need to keep us straight in your head and remember who's talking to you when you see one of us posting. However, for those of you feel better knowing, we have provided you with the above list.
At one point we talked about having generic usernames: Mod 1, Mod 2, etc., to make things more objective and impersonal. However, we acknowledged that many of the members in the past have really not appreciated not knowing who was talking to them when they got an email from tdmods. So we compromised and created usernames that are distinct and related to our individual selves, but still separate from our member accounts.
Your Deputy Mods
TC_2 - Chaplain
Riley - A Game Master
Liquid - The Music Man
Skip Lively - Forum Monitor
Adira - Forum Monitor
Now, I am sure some of you are asking "What exactly is a Deputy Mod?"
Well, that is what I am here to tell you. Deputy Mods are a new completely volunteer position I am adding to help us out. As you can probably guess, this community is a lot bigger than our previous one, and has a lot of additional features and toys to play with. Deputy Mods are people that are willing to volunteer their time to help us out.
The Game Masters have complete Moderation control in The Playroom area. While the full time mods will also be in charge of that area, the Game Masters are entrusted by us to run the show. Please respect them as you would the full time moderators.
The Music Men have complete Moderation control in the Music area. Same thing applies. Please respect them as you would the full time moderators.
Forum Monitors are much like Hall Monitors that you may have had during your school years. They help us out in general across the forum, reminding people to be nice by not running to conclusions, cutting other people off, or being rude in general. They will report repeat offenders to myself or the moderation staff, and in cases of immediate urgency, have the same rights that a forum moderator has in being able to lock a thread, delete a post or move a thread. Please respect them as you would the administrator or the moderation staff.
The Chaplain is a special character in this community (take that how you will, TC). He helps us by keeping The Upper Room running smoothly. The Upper Room is a place where people can share their thoughts with and pray for each other.
How Do I Become A Deputy Mod?
I'm glad you asked! You will be hand picked at a time that we feel we need extra help. We will be observing your posts and your interactions with other people, as well as your willingness to help out when needed. Please do not ask to become a Deputy Mod.
Also, if you think a specific person would be a great addition to our team, feel free to Private Message myself or any of the Moderators.
And finally, please do not be offended if you do not get selected. There are many people here, and it's sure to be a hard decision. Keep being who you are and the next time we need help, you just might be called on.
How Do I Become A Moderator?
From this point forward, all mods will be selected from the pool of Deputy Mods. Deputy Mod is basically a training program for Moderators To Be.
If you have any questions, please feel free to Private Message me.
