So, I assume we all know the Christian and Celtic/Pagan origins of Halloween, and about All Saint's Eve and Samhain.

I assume most of us who celebrate Halloween do so in the secular manner of dressing up and getting candy, going to parties, etc. I assume most of us do not go all Pagan or even think about all those saints.

If any of these assumptions are wrong, feel free to post your own point of view.

But...the question becomes: Is Halloween sanctifying/okay for Christians who love God to participate in?

I have not received any revelations that tell me not to participate in Halloween, but I wonder...Is a holiday devoted to witches, demons, goblins, and ghouls something God would admire?

Can we participate as long as we don't dress up as the aforementioned or glorify them?

What do you all think?

Love in Christ,
Cassie

Tinoket: Feel free to start another thread or hijack this one. One of my favorite things about discussion is that it leads in unexpected places. :)

To tell you the truth, the only reason I like Halloween is because I get to dress up. Not as something scary or evil, but as cute things or whatnot. We (adults) never get to let loose and dress up without being called stupid or childish except on Halloween. Other than that...you're right that candy is available all year long.

Why don't you go into theatre or dance? You get to dress up all the time. :P

Oh, gosh, I can't dance! (Seriously, you should see me during praise and worship at church...lol). Theater might be fun, but I don't know that I can commit to that. Still, that's a good idea.

would people mind if I start a whole different thread tomorrow re: that? It pretty complex. lemme know and I will try to post it tomorrow.

I wouldn't mind, but I reccommend you link to this thread so people know what you're talking about. :)

I am interested in hearing your thoughts. ;)

As am I.

And the phrase I used was "ritual satanism", not "spiritual satanism". There are lame rituals in the Church of Satan, but it is built around obnoxious enmity toward Christianity as a social institution rather than around rituals themselves. It's merely the most famous among today's geeky Luciferian cults.

ya. you are right. thanks for correcting that. just take the "spi" out of my "spiritual" so then it becomes ritual. hehe. I was tired. But yeah, that is much better than calling it "real satanism".
I have started writing up my new thread into Word. It will probably take a couple of days. But I will link this site and tell people that my thread is kind of a spin off from this one.
I am not sure how "basic" I need to start off. Like..for example, when you hear the word ritual. What do most people think of? I will just let the Holy Spirit take over. And those who get it are the ones who are supposed to "get it" heh
Cassie: yeah, the dressing up thing. Just throw a costume party. Then you get the food and costume all in one. Without creating any kind of delight in the enemies eyes and heart. I am not sure if I know you from before, you may want to read my 3 lil blogs to get an idea of who i am. They are not stories.
Both of you: yay. I am happy somebody is interested in hearing something I have to say! : D

One more question..if what you are doing causes the darkness (satan and his minions) to laugh and smile would you want to continue in what you are doing? I am not saying that this is what is happening (yet) its just a question thrown out there.

I actually would never throw a party in my own house. I hate it when people come over. My sanctuary gets all invaded like...but I would attend others' parties.

As for "ritual" I kind of equate it with the word "religion." Meaning you do something over and over in order to please God (or a deity of your choice). I mean, "satanic rituals" (of which I know nothing but what I"ve seen on television) is like, doing something (like using blood or chickens or whatever) to please Satan and manipulate him into giving you what you want. Unfortunately, Satan will give you what will harm you most. As for Christian rituals...you can't manipulate or outsmart God.

We haven't met before, Tinoket, so I will definitely be taking a look at your blogs in sec.

Of course, it would be nice to want to stop doing things that...well...delight or glorify Satan, but that is what we do every time we disobey God. I, personally, like to...remind Satan of his loser status as often as possible. Every time I obey God and don't let Satan get me depressed I remind him of the fact that he is ALREADY lost because God is ALREADY won.

ok. thanks! that gives me somewhat of an idea of probably most people think of when they hear or see the word "ritual". alot of things pop into peoples minds. i will make it clear as to what i am referring to.
and much of what you just said i will try to address in the thread.
it takes me awhile to write stuff up so be patient with me. i am not a "writer or author" I am a visual artist.
You can call me Tinoket it you want. I was Goliath on the old boards. I still like that name too. My real name is Colleen which alot of people already know.
I hope you got a chance to look at the 3 bogs. It gives a glimpse into my childhood and how HE indeed has already won.

I will say....and I know many people probably disagree here (waits specially for people like my bro RETS to throw cakes and tomatoes at me) but I DO know that when Christians engage in Halloween, that it brings smiles to those who worship satan. Honestly? Lets say a satanist is walking the streets on Halloween and is smiling at all the ignorance and joy of what the people are doing. I dont see it as the man smiling but the darkness For it is not flesh but the rulers and powers of the darkness, eh?

I look fwd: to getting to know you. Spy, hmm...I liked your "as am I" statment. hehe

:) You have an amazing testimony... and an amazing healing. God is so good! Even in that darkness, you were His. You have always been His. And He has always been yours. :) It's amazing.

Don't worry if it takes you a while to sort out your thoughts. It makes me more excited to read something someone's put a lot of thought and effort into.

I don't know that I agree that satanists love Halloween or smile at our ignorance.... actually, that brings up the question of "If Halloween were wrong, and people celebrated it in ignorance of the origins or whatever it is that makes it wrong, is that ignorance an excuse?" I am usually the first to say ignorance is no excuse (Read Romans 1:18-21 or so). But it is an interesting question.

I look forward to getting to know you more, too. :)

I read through it... or more like scanned. He has whole paragraphs that are excerps from various books and such. He filled the thing with info on where he got his info. I simply put up a couple of the parts with the information that I thought was the most relevant.

I didn't read his posts as upset, but I just drank Thera-flu infused with chammomile, so my own thoughts are very at ease right now.

2%, I am sure that your dad did get his research from books (before the Internet, that was really the easiest way to get information); I was hoping that his booklet would end with a list of references or further reading or something like that so I can know the names and authors of said books. Generally that's what you do when you write a work of research (legally, you have to, and it's just courteous to the people reading it). Most books and booklets which are the product of months or years of research contain something to let the reader know where the research came from and point them in a direction if they wish to do additional research or fact-check the work itself. You see, your dad's article may make people want to do their own research, but without knowing where he got his information, they don't know where to start.

Anyway, it is past my bedtime. Good night all.
